This Year You Can Rent Your Ugly Holiday Sweater

Each year, some genius among my friends throws a holiday party where everyone is supposed to wear an ugly, ill-fitting sweater outfitted with pictures of deers and berries, lined with actual mistletoe. The whole tradition continues to mystify me, but still, it exists and costs around $20/year at a thrift store or hours rummaging through grandparents’ closets.

But it’s not the money or the energy that frustrates me as much as having an actual collection of ugly sweaters that I wouldn’t be caught dead in, except on the night of the annual holiday party. Closet space is hard to come by, and ugly sweaters are not worthy.
